About Society for Rural Development (SRD)

The Society for Rural development or SRD is a rights-based, child-centred, community development organization working in Hyderabad since 1987 towards empowerment of the urban poor, especially with children in distress. With ‘Development Without Exploitation’ as its foundation, SRD has been a pioneer in designing unique programs that combine grassroots level work to address development issues of the urban poor, with sustained lobbying and advocacy with government duty-bearers for policy change at state and national levels.

Key Functionaries & Experience

Srinivas Reddy: Executive Director with 22 years of experience in child rights and community development organization; knowledge in handling problems in a pragmatic amicable manner; contacts at high levels in government departments and political parties useful for lobbying. Good rapport with network of NGOs in Hyderabad and outside

M Rajendra Prasad: Director; Child rights activist from more than three decades. Associated with MV Foundation from a long period of time. Actively lobbied and worked to bring about the Right to Education Act successfully; ensured justice for children rescued from child labour by ensuring their compensation is released.

Dr. Rao V.B.J. Chelikani: Director; rich experience as writer, activist and recipient of several awards conferred by Government of India, Italy, Bulgaria, France, Tunisia and Ghana

Mohammed Kabeer: Child rights activist for nearly 20 years; engages with children often by giving them motivational talks; taking personality development sessions; a film maker who makes films with child centered themes. He also teaches children acting skills and has groomed many children to participate in state and inter state level dramatics
